Ever since I moved back to East Texas, my desire has been to HELP people, especially with their housing needs. My goal is to start a non-profit housing ministry in the near future.
Basically, this ministry will involve demonstrating the love of Christ through:
- Helping struggling families with housing (training & helping with creative building techniques)
- Helping the elderly with housing by reducing energy bills and making their homes more accessible.
- Helping small & struggling churches with practical needs (building repairs, additions, etc.)
- Helping missionaries on their field of labor with building/repair needs
- Helping with disaster recovery (Clean debris, repair/rebuild, etc.)
- Helping returning/retiring missionaries find adequate housing
- Helping missionaries on deputation/furlough by providing temporary housing (cabins, etc.)
I'm currently writing a book and training material aimed particularly at young people just starting out to be creative when building or remodeling their first home.
The difference between this ministry and Habitat for Humanity is that I would like to emphasize repairs/remodeling instead of new construction. Also, I'd like to teach the average person how to make smarter financial decisions with their housing, not just low income people. And it would be great to offer the opportunity for families to minister together in this type of ministry.
